Almost, But Not
There’s a strange feeling when you want someone who is always just beside you — close enough to see clearly, but never close enough to reach.
You talk. You laugh. You share small moments that feel meaningful. From the outside, nothing is missing. But inside, you know something isn’t fully there.
It’s not rejection.
It’s not distance.
It’s just not happening.
And that can be harder to understand.
Sometimes we hold onto people not because they belong in our lives, but because they make us feel less alone in a moment of time. They become a possibility we don’t want to test, because reality might end it.
So the feeling stays in a quiet space — somewhere between friendship and something more.
Not growing. Not disappearing.
Just existing.
Maybe the truth is, we don’t always fall for people.
Sometimes we fall for timing, attention, or the comfort of almost being understood.
And when we realize that, the feeling slowly changes —
from wanting them, to understanding ourselves.
