What Growing Up Took From Me

Growing up didn’t happen in one moment.

It happened in small losses I barely noticed.

It took the way I trusted people without hesitation.
It took the certainty that hard work always leads somewhere good.
It took the simple belief that things would eventually make sense.

Somewhere along the way, excitement turned into caution.
Curiosity turned into calculation.
Hope learned how to stay quiet.

No one tells you that maturity sometimes feels like subtraction.

You don’t just gain experience — you lose softness.
You don’t just become stronger — you become harder to surprise.
You don’t just understand the world — you see through it.

And once you see through things, you can’t go back.

But growing up didn’t only take.

It left something behind —
a quieter kind of strength,
a patience built from disappointment,
and the ability to keep moving even when nothing feels certain.

Maybe innocence disappears so resilience can exist.

Maybe you don’t lose yourself when you grow up.
Maybe you just become someone who knows the cost of everything.

And keeps going anyway.
